Spontaneous Perforation of the Intrahepatic Bile Duct

Abstract
The perforation of biliary tract is rare condition among various biliary lesions.
The most of the perforations of biliary system occur in gall bladder in associated with acute inflammation of the organ, causing generalized peritonitis or localized abscess.
The spontaneous perforation of the common bile duct occupies a small portion of the perforation in biliary tract system.
They usually occurs in association with calculous disease of the common bile duct with or without secondary cholangitis.
The authors present cases of spontaneous perforation of intrahepatic bile duct, which caused free bile peritonitis and localized perihepatic abscess.
The both perforation occured in left lobe of the liver on superior surfaces.
The both cases were associated with stone in common bile duct. The cause of the perforations seems to be due to increased ductal pressure caused by stone in the common bile duct and associated with cholangitis.
A brief review of the literature was made regarding the spontaneous perforation of biliary system.
